Some Tech Updates – iPhone, D90, Alarm Clocks

Fee got an iPhone a while ago :3 I got to touch it second! It was a white iPhone although he wanted a black one. There weren’t any available anymore and he couldn’t wait any longer so he just got it. It was kinda hard to text though. I guess you have to get used to it. I’m just annoyed about the useless bluetooth and the no forwarding of text messages. As well as the 3G but no video call thing.

I guess I’ll wait until a better and cheaper version comes out. :)

Nikon’s going to have a dSLR with video! The D90! This was one of the reasons I didn’t want to get an dSLR. I wanted a camera that could do video. But now that Nikon will release one… well… This would be one of my target cameras if I had the money. It’s 12MP and at around 60k. 60k is a lot of money… but for what you’re getting… It’s definitely worth it. :D

I want an alarm clock. One that is hard to turn off the alarm bec I really don’t get up in the morning. I found quite a few I’m interested in.

1. Puzzle Clock

When the alarm goes off, it ejects the puzzle pieces on top and you have to find them and place them back on the alarm clock before the alarm stops. This is my last choice bec I think the pieces would not fly off too far and it would not take much time to put the pieces back on the clock.

2. Sfera

This is my target alarm clock bec I’m located on the top bunk of a double decker bed. It seems a bit scary if I had a normal alarm clock. I might kick it off and break it so this seems like the right alarm clock for me. It also works as a radio and as a dim light bulb. You lightly shake it to set the alarm and the music will fade as you sleep. When it alarms, you have to tap it to make it go into snooze mode. BUT! It would retract higher until you can’t reach it anymore and you’d have to get up and pull it down to shut the alarm off. The radio mode works by twisting the sphere.

3. Flying Alarm Clock

This is my third choice. As the name suggests, when the alarm goes off, the sphere on top flies around the room while making sounds. You have to catch it and put it back in its base to turn off the alarm. This scares me a bit. What if the propellers hit someone in the room? I share a room with all 3 of my siblings. It would be bad if the thing lands on someone or something.

4. Clocky

This is my second choice because it sounds safer than the flying alarm clock but basically works under the same principle. When the alam goes off, the clock will roll off the stand and ‘find a spot’ for it to hide in. You’d then have to find it and turn off the alarm. It supposedly finds a different spot everyday.

File Hosting

Sometimes email isn’t enough. I use Gmail and Yahoo! and they both limit how much you can send in an email. I don’t know the term for it. I’m not very techy but here is a list of some hosts I’m familiar with, along with some comments.

YouSendIt
YouSendIt used to be the best way to send large files over the net. However, perhaps because of it’s popularity, they require you to pay now, although they have free trials. I don’t use this anymore.

FileDropper
Although it can go up to 5GB of file hosting, and it’s a clean site, I don’t really like it much. The last time I used it, it was quite slow. But the first time I used it was okay.

MediaFire
I actually like MediaFire. It’s easy to use, and they even have folders and such. Although it only goes until a 100MB.

PhotoBucket
I’ve been using this for how many years now. I like the old Photobucket. The new Photobucket doesn’t like me and takes time to recognize my uploads. What I do is choose the old uploader option. :p You can upload photos and videos on photobucket.

Add up all the numbers and repost
this as: MY MARRYING AGE IS…
27

Late by a year. I want to get married at 26, have my first child (who is a boy) at 28, and have my second child (who is a girl) at 35. Alternatively… I would want fraternal twins (girl and boy) at the age of 28 or 29.

Some Stuff About the Blue and White

This will be really random. I’m really sleepy… but I really want to write this. Beware of the RANT.

1. UAAP. It’s really funny how some teachers’ mood depends on the UAAP. Poor students, our grades depend on the outcome of the UAAP. “Humanity, you never cease to amaze me.” – Morpheus, Sandman. Neil Gaiman.

2. HOMEWORK. I have so much stuff to do. I haven’t read the very very long Fil reading yet. I forgot to bring it with me to read over the weekend, and I have a paper due on Tues. At the same time, I have midterms part II of SA21 on Monday, as well as a paper for Theo. Then there’s the Sagala, which I haven’t done manual labor on. OH! And the paintings for Hi18 are due on Tues. I probably shouldn’t have committed to do half. I never realize how much work I need to do until I analyze it later on. Thurs, we have to report for FA 165 because our group was the last to present last week and we weren’t able to finish our reports.

3. There’s this really nice concept found at the MVP basement called the Honesty Store. It’s a cabinet full of chips and candy with prices labeled on the shelf and it’s up to you if you will pay and place the money inside the cash box or walk away. You could also put it on credit, get now; pay later. But it’s all about honesty. I love it! The only thing I don’t like is if you don’t have change… you can’t get your change bec the cash box is locked. I guess they can afford losing a bit of money if a lot of people don’t pay up; but I guess the loss of all the money people paid up for is too much.

Random: (as if it isn’t enough)

I need to finish my 5 hours left at A1 Driving (5/15 hours). I semi-forgot how to drive now. I really should have finished my schooling then and practiced contionously. Now that school’s started… I just do not have time. I really should start driving to school though, as practice and for practicallity. I’ll miss hitching with Fee though. I like riding with him even if he gets stressed over traffic. It’s like our bonding time, talking about school or problems or whatever.

Burger King, Dairy Queen, and Bestsellers

My mom had won herself a slot for this Burger King blogger event. Yesterday, we went to Robinson’s Galleria for our free meal for at Burger King. There were 5 of us, even if the event stated that it was for a blogger plus at most 3 more people. My mom brought me, and my two brothers, and I brought Fee along as well. Mom just paid for whatever extra orders we had. The ‘Galle’ BK, gave us free drinks (good for 4), free sundaes, free fries and onion rings, and free Junior Whoppers. It wasn’t a big event or anything. We just ate our meal peacefully. Burger King has always had good food and that time wasn’t any more special. (Aside from the fact that it was free :p) The manager was really nice though. She took our orders patiently, and even attended to our needs. (Such as me asking for the password for the day which was this really long password. Their net was fast! <3 ) The staff was nice too. Since my mom has braces and has a hard time biting her food, or opening her mouth too wide, she asked the staff if they would be so kind as to slice her burger for her. And they did! That was really nice of them to do. I’d think they’d just give you a knife if you asked. :)

Afterward, we went to Dairy Queen so I could satisfy my craving for a blizzard. Then Fee and I wandered to Humor Post, just to look around, then we went to Bestsellers Bookstore to look at their graphic design books. We found this really great book which has a very nice selection of calling cards. I’m thinking of designing my mom a new calling card. I don’t like her current one. I feel insulted. (even if I myself, aren’t a good designer yet) But it couldn’t be helped since I had no time to make one for her, and she wanted it ASAP so she could give them out during events. I also found this cute book of adorable dogs. It was something like… 101 adorable dogs. Most of the dogs had pictures of them with puppy dog eyes. <3 Then it was time to go home. It made me sad since I love bookstores and I really liked that one. Plus, I wasn’t finished wandering around yet. :(

New Layout

[Edited] I’m still figuring out what layout to use, which is both visually attractive and mostly minimalist. It’s hard to find a layout which satisfies what little designer instincts I have, and at the same time, appeals to others who are unlike me.

I don’t want my site too chaotic, or too boring. I don’t want too many pictures as my layout, and at the same time, I don’t want people not to be interested in my site because it seems so plain. Designers would appreciate minimalist themes, but not everyone is a designer.

The Warrior of the Light, A Manual; Coelho, Paulo

I’m not really a book critic, but I really love books. I thought I’d share my opinion of some of the books I’ve read. Hopefully, someone would find this useful when they hop along to some Book Heaven like FullyBooked or PowerBooks or even National Bookstore.

The first book I’d like to start on is The Manual of the Warrior of the Light by Paulo Coelho but before that a bit about Coelho and his wonderful books.

Now Coelho is simple an amazing writer. Teens like me may or may not be fond of the Bible, or those books about finding God, and things like that because it’s supposed to be corny. However, Paulo Coelho, a fiction writer, does a great job of making a somewhat spiritual book into this inspiring novel that I’m sure many many many people can relate to. His books don’t portray a life of some ‘perfect’ person which we should copy. It doesn’t tell us what is right or what is wrong. His books are open to self-interpretation, and to some effect, they don’t really have endings. His books are like journeys where you have to find out which way you want to go after reading the book. They talk about humans with very imperfect lives, wherein they, the characters, would struggle. Just like everyone who is human. We aren’t perfect, and neither are the characters. Most of the time, we struggle to the find the path which is least painful to us – the right path. The characters are the same, sometimes they too go astray, but there is hope, hope that they too will find their way back to the path where they belong.

If you’re the type of person who likes Chocolate for a Teen’s Soul, or books like that, I would recommend Paulo Coelho’s book. His books require some deep thinking so I would recommend it to teens… and everyone who’d still like to believe they’re teens. :D In short, teens and above… and way above. Haha! Kidding :)

The Warrior of the Light: A Manual, is actually a companion book to the Alchemist. Now The Alchemist, is one of the best, if not the best, selling book Coelho has. Most people I have met have read it and liked it. Now, I’ll save the review of the Alchemist for some other time if you want me to talk about it, but I’m assuming you’ve read it already since it really is famous. The Warrior of Light is literally in a manual format. It first starts off with a short story about a boy who sat in front of the ocean, hoping to hear the bells a mysterious woman talked about. Next, is the manual part. We could also describe it as a manual of wisdom. There are many quotable words of wisdom in this part which could be applied to one’s life if one wished to live a good life with no regrets. It’s like the 10 commandments, if you will. It isn’t God’s words, and it isn’t God’s law, but it’s common sense of what is right, except just a bit deeper than the obvious. Many of these words of wisdom contradict each other but that is life. Life is filled with contradictions, however, we as humans have the capacity to make choices. (Apply what I learned it Theo. OMGoodness. :o ) Freedom is having the capacity to choose. God gave us freedom, but this freedom is free yet morally obliging. (According to Theo class) Humans are free to do what they want, but we’re all bent to do what is morally correct – to do what is good. God gave us freedom, but He also gave us Wisdom. Wisdom is different from Intellect, and according to my handy dandy Mac Oxford Dictionary, Wisdom is “the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of being wise.”

So as you can see, I’m really a Paulo Coelho fan because for me he writes really really well. And as for my opinion on the book, I’d give it a 10/10… but if I really want to be critic-y. I’d give it a 7/10. I’d recommend spending the money on some other Paulo Coelho books such as The Alchemist. The Warrior of the Light: A Manual is not really a story so one might feel bored after reading a few quotes, but then if you think you won’t be bored and are one of your inspirational moods, I think you’d really like this book.

Cramming Varsity

It’s been a long time since I last made an entry. School’s really tiring, plus I gained a lot of weight since school started. All that walking in AdMU just makes you want to eat, plus there’s a lot of new stalls at the Caf (I don’t go to JSEC bec it’s too far from where I hang out at). I don’t really do much at home except to check mail, watch the latest episode of Shugo Chara! and do schoolwork. There isn’t much time to do anything else because school really tires you out that you just tend to fall asleep as soon as you get home.

Anyways, here are some things that have happened to me since last time.

I had my first insertion at CRIBS New Beginnings in Markina. It’s a place where abused girls go to try to recover and start anew. (There’s also CRIBS Receiving Homes for abandoned babies.) I felt a bit out of place since it’s my first time doing area. I don’t know any girls,  I barely know my fellow NSTP/Org mates so it felt really awkward for me. I wasn’t entirely sure what to say, or what to do in fear that I might make them remember something from their past. Our goal was to try to help them by playing with them and having fun, but I think that we didn’t do so well that day. We were all tired just commuting to the area, and half of our group missed our stop (which included me), so we did a LOOT of walking that day.

The second insertion was better. I guess the girls needed time to adjust to our presence, and us to theirs. For the older girls, since they didn’t see Tugon over the summer, it was trying to remember the bond with the members. And for the new girls, of course it’d take time to adjust to having people over. I guess I liked the second insertion better because I really like art and we made notebooks today. Compared to our first, GD (group dynamics), where we played some odd version of newspaper dance, I liked the notebook making better. Plus, I wasn’t as tired today. We learned our lesson and arrived there in one take. :p

I also had my first long exam for the year for Hi18 – Western History. Not much to say about it, I found it hard… (I dare not say I found it eas…y… because I usually fail exams that I find easy. Although I did find it hard because I forgot some things…or maybe a lot of things…)

Next week is hell week. Good thing there’s no class on Thurs bec of St. Ignatius Day, but that doesn’t mean we have the luxury of relaxing that day. On Monday, I have my first long exam for Terror Theo. It’s just so hard remember which passage goes to which bible verse, and all the points Ma’am mentions in class. Information Overload. There’s just too many readings to remember everything. On tues, I have a Fil paper due for the play we watched some time ago. 3-5 pages long is a challenging yet decent number, except for the fact that it’s Filipino. I’m really poor at Filipino. (Oh random. Please excuse my poor grammar. I lost the ability to make decent punctuated sentences which are also grammatically correct. My theory is because I don’t have time to read books anymore, and I stopped writing prose/fiction. Also, everyone seems to talk in Filipino so you have to go with the flow.) At the same time, we’re having a meeting for our presentation for Theo because on Friday, we have consultation. So I need to fix my research, and we’re supposed to criticize each other’s report. On Weds… we have to fix the reports based on the critiques, and I should start finishing our Hi18 project wherein we reenacted paintings, and now we’re photoshopping faces into the paintings. On Thurs, NO CLASSES, but I still have to go to school for another meeting for our consultation on fri. Friday is a hectic day still because we have our weekly Theology quiz, Theo consultation, FA101 LQ plus FA101 project.

An acquaintance asked if it was hellweek next week for me as well, and I said not really. I didn’t really realize how much work there was to be done bec I thought FA majors’ work isn’t much compared to those who have accounting as well. Now I know I made a mistake with what I said. It is hell week next week. And it isn’t even the week before the finals. Teachers have this odd link with each other wherein they schedule their projects and tests all at the same time. It suxs really. >.< I wonder if working is less stressing. I have this odd feeling… it is…

RandomRandom Title. I saw this girl with this Ateneo PE shirt looking shirt that says Cramming Varsity at the back. I lurv it! I want that shirt. For some reason, our generation is filled with crammers. I guess we can plan outings well, but we can’t plan our schoolwork schedule just as well.

The Big Bang Theory (TBBT)

I recently got into watching a TV series called, “The Big Bang Theory”, recommended by Philip Cheang, resident High Priest of the Cult of Mac in AdMU. (just kidding!) I guess one wouldn’t really understand the hilarity of it unless one was a nerd/geek. (Or hoping to be labeled as one as in my case). Although to be completely honest, I do not understand a lot of the things mentioned in the series, although I understand the concept behind it such as jokes about MMORPGS (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games – such as World of Warcraft a.k.a. WOW)

It features two super genius theoretical (and stereotypical) physicists named Leonard and Sheldon, and their new next door blonde (stereotyped) neighbor named Penny. There isn’t really any plot to this TV series aside from the fact that Leonard is constantly trying to get the attention of Penny in hopes of a *cough*sexual*cough* relationship.

Here’s a quote I foud online! :)

Leonard: We need to widen our circle.
Sheldon: I have a very wide circle. I have 212 friends on MySpace.
Leonard: Yes, and you’ve never met one of them.
Sheldon: That’s the beauty of it.
